Welcome
When my daughter left for college, she asked me what I was going to do now. I told her, feed every hungry person in Nashville, TN. I think we can. And clothe them. And find counseling for them or whatever else they need.
With love and friendship, we can watch over our neighbors, we can buy an extra can of tuna and take it to Second Harvest, we can listen when someone is hurting. Like the child who shared his meal to feed thousands, we can take our loaves and fishes and make a change.
Maybe you're the one who needs the meal right now. Or are worried about paying the bills. Or are a teen or senior citizen who is being abused. Don't give up! Find help. Keep trying. Never, ever give up.
Thanks to those who keep the dream alive: the guidance counselor at the local school who never lets a child be cold or hungry; the sisters who provided enough yarn for scarves for students; the volunteer for the Storytime craft supplies; the workers at Second Harvest who feed our neighbors and provide a listening ear; the friend who anonymously donates Kroger cards and food for a community meal; the pastor who visits the prison and the hospital; a little boy who brings in his four aluminum cans to raise funds for his church; my family who lovingly says yes when I want to build a web site to help other families. And all the rest of you who help, you know who you are. THANK YOU SO MUCH!
Love and Friendship. Loaves and Fishes. Together, we can make a difference. JJ

July 5, 2010, 1:24 pmFlood Victims
Nashville Mayor Karl Dean announced plans recently for Metro to help flood victims bridge the gap between federal assistance and the true costs of rebuilding with the We Are Home program focusing on low- or no-interest loans, grants and volunteer construction work. The program will take a three-tiered approach. Metro initially will offer homeowners a loan of up to about $100,000 with 4 percent interest. Officials expect only a small percentage would receive those loans, because most already have "maxed out" their debt capacity. Instead, most homeowners will get grants of up to $10,000. The third option is an interest-free loan of up to $20,000 - with repayment due when the home is sold. Metro hopes to raise $50 million to fund the assistance from several sources: federal grants, citizen donations and corporate contributions. Already, the Metro Council has reallocated $5.1 million from two federal grant programs, while Regions Bank has contributed $1 million and The Community Foundation of Middle Tennessee has provided $900,000 from disaster relief donations. Housing counselors with We Are Home will start meeting with affected homeowners July 7. Homeowners can call 615-862-6523 to make appointments. (See complete story under Flood Information).
